and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, and Mary was the mother of Jesus who is called the Messiah
I find it interesting that we see the genealogy in Matthew of Joseph’s descendents, when Jesus is the Son of God born through the Holy Spirit. It wasn’t until I researched further and came across Dr. Michael Rydelnik’s article which breaks it down, making it easier to understand. The Jewish law required proof that Jesus had the right to the throne through Joseph’s ancestry, but because of the curse placed on Solomon in Jeremiah 22:30, the bloodline proof had to come through Mary’s side, thereby Jesus skipping the curse cast onto Solomon whilst still having a legal right to the throne through Joseph as his adopted father.
I have often questioned in the past why Mary and Joseph were specifically chosen as the parents for Jesus, and now I feel I have a better understanding of this genealogy thanks to that article.
I find it awe inspiring that God knew all this in advance and had it all planned out, and when one thinks of all the generations prior and how things could go wrong, God still managed to make it all happen.
How wonderful then, in our own lives, when we question everything and our future is shrouded in uncertainty, God already has our whole lives laid before us as long as we put our faith in Him that He will continue to lead us on the right path. Then, the only real uncertainty become the choices we make that may cause us to stray from God’s plans, and even then, He will find a way to make things right again.
