Reflection on Genesis 8:22

“As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.”

For as long as I can remember, growing up, I’d had a panic attack every single time I heard of an asteroid or meteor heading in Earth’s direction.  With the Earth being round and nowhere to hide, it can be quite unsettling being reminded of our vulnerability to what’s out there in space.

And don’t even get me started on the thought of black holes!

Reading this verse, I’m reminded that God CAN make this promise!  God created all the planets and stars out there.  The synchronicity of it all, like the gears in a clock, passing each other in perfect timing, but never quite colliding.

Oh sure, it’s believed that asteroids killed off the dinosaurs, but how do we know that wasn’t just God clearing the way for mankind.  The 7 days in the bible are often believed to not be 7 actual, 24-hour days, but 7 days in God’s time, which in itself, is infinite.

In the blink of an eye, God’s eye, here we are, generations of humans.
