| “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” I find this interesting. What it brings to mind are the money making schemes in the modern world. How many times have you seen an Ad whilst watching YouTube, and in that Ad, some so-called rich guy is standing in front of a Learjet, or sitting in his office with the screens in the background focused on the stock market, and this guy tells you that whilst he sleeps he makes millions, and if you just simply subscribe to him, he will tell you his secret. I’ll admit to once or twice in a skeptical manner, I’d “take the bait”, just to see where a link takes me, and it’s usually to a website that boasts about how easy it is to invest in the stock market or cryptocurrency, or even real estate, and all it takes is some “pocket change” to get us started on the road to riches. Sure! Like we all have a spare $200 lying around waiting for the mythical ‘opportunity of a lifetime’. Those who are wise to these scammers will be savvy enough to know that if people are on a winning thing, they’re not going to share their secret, not unless it means more money for them. So a genuine person is not going to put up Ads on YouTube, or anywhere else saying things like, “Subscribe to me, give me your money and I’ll show you how to get more money.” I’m not saying it’s wrong to become wealthy, but most of the time, it involves a lot of hard work and focus. And many people who are wealthy don’t advertise their wealth in the chance to make more money for themselves. Usually, these people are focused on helping others. People like Bill & Melinda Gates, Michael Bloomberg, Mark Zuckerberg & Priscilla Chan are just a few examples. Look up any one of these people, amongst others on philanthropic lists and you will see just how much they contribute to benefit others. “All this I give to you if you bow down and worship me.” – Matthew 4:9 “You can have all the riches you want if you just invest in me.” – Every big money scammer ever. Do you see the parallels? If someone were to come to you, and they seemed like the nicest, most charming person, and they offered you all that you ever dreamed, would you take it? Would you risk selling your soul to the devil? Or, like Jesus, would you send that person away. As with Jesus in the wilderness, the devil is always out there finding new ways to tempt us. How strong are you? |
