I remember the summers way back when
Of all the places we travelled to then
There were the drives along the Eastern coast
We’d lose ourselves on the beaches, almost
The views of pelicans as we sped past
Life didn’t seem to go by so fast
I remember the caravan parks we stayed over night
Where we enjoyed home comforts till morning light
The parks themselves were pretty cool
With zoos, kids rides and even a pool
I remember the cabin on the cold mountain top
The coldest of all was this pit stop
I remember I shivered so much I cried
And my mum held me close by her side
I had to sleep in a cot back then
Even though I was already ten
The cabin’s furniture was minimal, a bed, cot and a chair
Thank heavens we weren’t too long in there
I often think of that cabin so cold
Is it still for rent, or has it been sold
I don’t even know where it was
I often think of it, just because.
It was my worst night, but my best night too
Because family mattered back then, and we got through
I remember the places we went far away
I remember them to this very day
I long to travel and see them again
Perhaps I will one day, I just don’t know when.
