I’m healed!

After a week of daily dressing changes on an infection on the back of my leg, I go in today with the anticipation that today may be the last dressing change day.

As we wait for the Dr who has just been paged, I mention to the nurse, “So if today’s the last day, then I may not need any more dressing changes!  Yay!”

Nurse:  Are you still taking antibiotics?

Me: Yes but…

Just then the Dr. walks in

I continue in a whisper to the  nurse: I plan to cut that short and not get it refilled.

Just then the Dr. made an appearance looking spiffy in a black suit and white tie, complimenting his Indian skin colour.

Dr: How are you today?

Me: I’m fine.
Dr: Any pain? …but then you don’t feel much pain…

This is true, a combination of lymphoedema in both legs and diabetes has left the skin on my legs and feet, in some parts, feeling relatively numb.

Me: No pain.

Dr, looking at back of leg:  Looking good… what do you think, (he looks at the nurse), do you think it needs any dressing today?

Me: Tell him no.

Nurse: Well, I didn’t see it yesterday.

Me: Tell him no.

Nurse: I think it’s fine without dressing.

Dr: Yes, I think it’s fine also.

Me: Yes, I think so too, do I HAVE to continue the antibiotics till the end because they really are giving me hell.

Dr: No, you don’t have to.

Me: So I can just use up what I have now then and leave it at that?

Dr: Yes, and save the refill for when the next infection pops up.

He knows me and my body.  My infections have a tendency of showing themselves at the most inconvenient times, so at least now, I have a back up script for when I need it if I don’t have access to a doctor.

I arrive home patch free!  Perfect day!
