Siesta’s End

The sounds of the nearby construction, like giants clumsily rifling through an oversized kitchen drawer, stirred me from my dreams as my inner clock chimed two hours; seemingly the set length of time my body allows me to nap for, when I need to rest through the day.

Eyes open barely long enough to keep a snapshot of the scene before me, my blankets had escaped my chair and reached out past my feet before the door and sound asleep on them was Milly curled up by my side on the dog bed, and closer to my feet, Cleo was spread out on the runaway blankets snoring peacefully.  Snuggled by her side was Flick in a little nest she had made also in the blankets.

The scene looks so serene and adorable that I contemplated reaching for my tablet to take a pic of this magical moment, but before I could, I see a cat flying towards my head from the doorway as Goldie takes a flying leap and lands on the arm of the chair beside me.

“Mummy’s awake! It’s past our dinner time mum, ’bout time you woke up!”

So much for getting the tablet now with Goldie blocking my view as she wraps her body around my face hinting that she wanted a belly snug.

Cleo stirs nearby, not really seeing or hearing anything but sensing movement in the air, from the momentary flying puss, and realised the same thing that Goldie had, ‘mummy must be awake!’ so happily started to roly poly through the blankets that she was sleeping on only moments ago, not realising that Flick, who she kept colliding with, was still curled up on the blankets near by; but not for long.

Seeing all the activity around her, Flick decided it was much safer in her crate and disappears out of the bedroom at lightning speed to escape all the commotion leaving only Milly left curled up on the dog bed to observe all that went on around her.

So much for that snapshot moment.

With Goldie demanding food, Cleo insisting on toilet, Flick in her crate and Milly waiting to see what I was going to do next, I knew it was time to crawl out of my peaceful chair and begin my afternoon chores of tending to the furkids before I even think of having a much needed coffee to clear my foggy head.
